The Karisan ( bl. ) ( Finnish Karjaanjoki ) is a river in the southern Finnish landscape Uusimaa .

Karisån has its origin in Lake Pyhäjärvi near Karkkila . From there it flows south and changes its name several times. In the middle reaches the river is called Vanjoki . It flows into Lake Hiidenvesi . As a Väänteenjoki , he leaves this again and continues his run south. At Lohja it flows into Lake Lohjanjärvi . The lower reaches of the Karisån then also have the name Svartån ( Finnish Mustionjoki ). It passes Karis and flows into the Pohjanpitäjänlahti Bay and the Gulf of Finland near Pohja . Karisån drains an area of ​​2046 km².
