The TuS Chlodwig Zülpich (officially: Turn- und Sportverein Chlodwig 1896 Zülpich eV ) is a sports club from Zülpich in the Euskirchen district . The first soccer team took part in the DFB Cup once.
history
The club was founded in 1896 as the Zülpich gymnastics club . The football department has its roots in the Zülpich football club , which was founded in 1919. A year later, the sports department of the Catholic young men’s club joined the German Youth Force and called itself DJK Chlodwig Zülpich . The name comes from the Frankish king Chlodwig I. In 1935 the Zülpicher FC merged with the DJK Chlodwig. A year later the gymnastics club also joined and today's club was created. In addition to soccer, TuS Chlodwig Zülpich also offers badminton , basketball , ladies' gymnastics , fencing , Fit & More , handball , athletics , cycling and triathlon , taekwondo , table tennis and volleyball .
The footballers made it to the district class in 1951, but had to relegate again after just one year. In 1958 the Zülpicher even went down to the 2nd district class before they were promoted again two years later. In 1972 Clovis rose unbeaten in the district class and made the leap into the state league three years later . In 1978, the Zülpicher were runner-up in the regional league behind Rhenania Richterich and made it to the Mittelrhein Association . In the 1979/80 season , the club took part in the DFB Cup for the first and so far only time and failed in the first round with 2: 6 at ESV Ingolstadt-Ringsee .
At the end of the season Clovis descended from the Association League and in 1984 managed to rise again. After three years it went back down to the national league, which became the sporting home of the club for more than a decade. In 1997 Clovis was relegated to the district league and returned to the state league again for the 1999/2000 season. Two relegations in a row led the Zülpich 2001 in the district league A, before it went down in the district league B three years later. In 2007 the club reached its sporting low point with the descent into the district league C. Two ascents in a row brought Clovis back to the district league A in 2010. Seven years later, he was promoted to the district league, followed by promotion to the regional league in 2018.
Since 2009 there has been a women's team that has played in the regional league since 2012 and became runner-up there two years later. In addition to the football department, the club was able to celebrate successes in fencing. Raphael Steinberger took third place in the sword at the 2010 German Championship .
