The SSV Merten is a football club from Bornheim in Rhein-Sieg-Kreis .

history

The club was founded in 1925 and only played at the district level for decades. In 1999 the SSV rose to the district league for the first time and immediately had to relegate. It was not until 2007 that he was promoted to the district league again. Only the worse goal difference compared to VfR Bachem prevented the direct march into the Landesliga Mittelrhein . Finally succeeded in the following season 2008/09 promotion to the national league. There the Merteners initially commuted between mediocrity and relegation battle. In the 2012/13 season the SSV Merten was runner-up behind the Bonner SC . According to the quotient regulation , the Merteners were better than the runner-up in the parallel season SV Eilendorf and thus rose to the Middle Rhine League .

As fourth from last in the 2013/14 season , the SSV rose again immediately. The club's management initially protested. The stumbling block was the second team from Bayer 04 Leverkusen , which was withdrawn from the Regionalliga West and gave up its starting place in the Middle Rhine League . The Mittelrhein Football Association nevertheless rated the Leverkusen as relegated to the Mittelrheinliga, which meant that the Merteners had to relegate. The protest was rejected by the association. Three years later, the Merten team rose again to the Middle Rhine League , before being relegated to the state league again as the penultimate of the 2018/19 season .
