Manfred Pomp (born October 26, 1964 in Aachen ) is a former German soccer player .

In his youth, Pomp played for a year for Police-SV Aachen, seven years for Alemannia Aachen and three years for Bayer 04 Leverkusen . At Bayer, he made the leap from the youth department to the professional team alongside Thomas Zechel , Thomas Romeikat and Frank Glaß . In the 1983/84 season he made his debut in the Bundesliga . He was substituted on on the 23rd match day against Borussia Dortmund in the 83rd minute of the game. He stayed with the works team until the summer break in 1985 and then moved to the 2nd Bundesliga after seven appearances in the first division . His new employer was SG Union Solingen . He also played seven professional games for Solingen before becoming a sports invalid due to an injury and moving to the amateur camp. He still played for SSG 09 Bergisch Gladbach and Borussia Freialdenhoven .

National team

With the youth team of the DFB, he took part in the U-16 European Championship in Italy in 1982 and became vice European champion. In the final, the hosts Italy lost 1-0. In the semifinals they defeated Yugoslavia and Manfred Pomp scored the 2-1 winner. In the quarter-finals, they had prevailed in the German-German duel against the GDR in a two-way leg with 1: 1 (in Pirna near Dresden) and 3: 2 (in Kassel). Only one year later, Manfred Pomp took part in the U-18 European Championship in 1983 in England alongside Hansi Flick , Dieter Hecking and Michael Skibbe . The German team was eliminated after three preliminary round matches. Pomp was used in two games. Overall, Manfred Pomp played 25 times in the youth teams U16 - U18 and 4 times in the U21 under coach Berti Vogts.

Trainer

Pomp already worked as a coach in his time as a player. He obtained his coaching license and in 1990 completed the football teacher training course at the sports university in Cologne a. a. with Andreas Rettig , Friedhelm Funkel , Rainer Zobel , Rudi Kargus , Volker Finke and Heinz-Josef Koitka .
