Heinz-Josef "Jupp" Koitka (born February 12, 1952 in Wattenscheid ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

career

He started his career in 1971 at SG Wattenscheid 09 in the second-class Regionalliga West . From 1976 to 1979 he played for Eintracht Frankfurt before playing in the second Bundesliga North for Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid in the 1979/1980 season. From 1980 to 1982 he played for Hamburger SV . For the 1982/83 season he moved to Alemannia Aachen . He played there for two years and then returned to SG Wattenscheid 09. From 1987 to 1990 he played again for Hamburger SV. From 1975 to 1990 he played 142 Bundesliga games as a goalkeeper , 91 for Frankfurt and 51 for Hamburg. In addition, there were 278 appearances in the respective substructure of the Bundesliga, 47 of them in the regional league and 231 in the 2nd Bundesliga.

His greatest success was winning the German championship in 1982 with Hamburger SV after becoming runner-up in the preseason. In 1982 he reached the UEFA Cup final as a substitute goalkeeper behind Uli Stein .

In 1990 Koitka ended his career at HSV. Then he went back to his roots in Wattenscheid, where he was employed as a coach and goalkeeper coach at SG Wattenscheid 09. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as an assistant coach at Schalke 04.

Heinz-Josef Koitka was employed by the DFB from 1998 to 2007, where he was responsible, among other things, for goalkeeper training for the U-21 national team, and he also worked as an observer.

His son Kai also played for Wattenscheid 09 from 2003 to 2006 and 2012 to 2014.
