1982 European Under-16 Football Championship

The 1st U-16 European Football Championship was held in Italy from May 5 to 7, 1982 . Italy became the winner with a 1-0 victory over FR Germany . The GDR was eliminated in the second round against the Federal Republic.

qualification

26 nations took part in the qualification, these were divided into a total of 8 groups according to geographical criteria. Group 1 consisted of only two participants, three groups of four participants and the remaining four groups of three participants. All eight group winners made it to the intermediate round, the winners of which reached the final round after the first and second leg.

Intermediate round

The eight group winners were divided into four quarter-finals by lot. The four winners, after two legs, qualified for the finals.
