The 29th U-17 European Football Championship took place in Serbia from May 3rd to 15th, 2011 . It also served as a qualifier for the 2011 U-17 World Cup in Mexico . The best six teams qualify for the World Cup.

qualification

The first qualifying round began on September 17, 2010 and was completed on November 1, 2010. The elite round began on March 9, 2011 and ended on March 31, 2011. In the first qualifying round, Germany and Austria , who both competed in Group 2 with Estonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, prevailed and reached the elite round. The Switzerland was Scotland, Luxembourg and Macedonia behind him and also took part in the next round. Germany and Switzerland met in the elite round, and both played against Turkey and Ukraine. With three wins and nine points, Germany was the first in the table. Switzerland only achieved three points and was eliminated behind Turkey. Austria played in a group with Portugal, Croatia and the Netherlands and could not reach the finals with three points and third place.

The eight qualified teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team played each other once. The group winners and runners-up reached the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reached the final, third place was not played out.

Attendees

52 U-17 national teams took part in the first qualifying round. Host Serbia was the only team to automatically qualify for the finals. Thus seven more places were given to the seven group winners of the elite round.

Due to an injury to Levent Ayçiçek and the suspension of several players, coach Freund nominated defender Jeremy Toljan from VfB Stuttgart one day before the semi-final against Denmark . Substitute keeper Wilmes was also reported as field player with the number 7.
