Erich Berko (born September 6, 1994 in Ostfildern - Ruit ) is a German soccer player with Ghanaian roots. He is under contract with the second division club SV Darmstadt 98.
Career
In the club
In his youth, Berko first played for the Stuttgarter Kickers . In 2006 he moved to the youth department of VfB Stuttgart .
Berko made his professional debut as a U19 player on January 28, 2012 on the 23rd matchday of the 2011/12 season for the second team of VfB Stuttgart in the 3rd professional league against FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . On his 18th birthday he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the anterior ligament of his left knee while training with the Bundesliga team of VfB .
On May 7, 2013, Berko signed a licensed player contract with VfB Stuttgart, dated until the end of June 2015. For the 2015/16 season he moved to the Stuttgarter Kickers .
After the Kickers were relegated to the regional league, Berko moved to the second division Dynamo Dresden for the 2016/17 season . He signed a contract until June 30, 2019.
In January 2019, Dynamo announced that the contract would not be extended and that Berko had signed an employment contract with SV Darmstadt 98 that would run until 2022.
National team
Erich Berko made his debut on June 10, 2009 for the German U-15 national team in a 3-0 win over Poland and put in a goal. For Germany's U-16 national team , Berko played his first game against Switzerland on August 14, 2009 . He played against Egypt on November 10, 2010 for the first time for the German U-17 national team . At the U-17 European Championship in 2011 he was runner- up with Germany under Steffen Freund and completed four appearances during the tournament.
