Matthias Bader (born June 17, 1997 in Pforzheim ) is a German football player . The defensive player is currently under contract with SV Darmstadt 98 and is a former junior national player.

Career

In the club

Bader went through the U-17 and U-19 of the Karlsruher SC before he signed a professional contract on October 2, 2014 and trained with the professionals from then on. But it was initially still used in the youth.

For the 2016/17 season Bader moved up to the professional squad. On August 7, 2016, the 1st matchday of the 2016/17 season, Bader made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga when he came on for Manuel Torres in the 86th minute of the game . In the 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum on the following day, Bader was in the starting line-up for the suspended Ylli Sallahi for the first time . During the season he was able to establish himself in the position of right-back; nevertheless he rose at the end of this season with the KSC as bottom of the table in the 3rd division . There he was placed on the right defensive side and played 29 games. In the end he failed with the KSC in the promotion relegation at FC Erzgebirge Aue .

For the 2018/19 season Bader moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Köln . He signed a contract with the Bundesliga relegated team until June 30, 2021. At the beginning of the season, he was initially out with a hip injury, but was unable to assert himself after his recovery. Ultimately, he only played four league games for Cologne and was mostly no longer in the squad at the end of the season. Nevertheless, he was part of the Cologne promotion team. Coach Achim Beierlorzer replaced him in the following Bundesliga season on matchday five in the 4-0 defeat against FC Bayern Munich for Marco Höger , so that Bader could celebrate his Bundesliga debut.

After six competitive games for Cologne's first and five for Cologne's second team, the defensive player moved to SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of January 2020 , where he received a contract that was valid until June 2022.

In the national team

Bader is also a multiple German national team player. With the German U17 he played in the U-17 European Championship 2014 in the games against Switzerland and Portugal , but failed with Germany in the group stage. Bader was most recently a German U-20 national player . With this team, he took part in the U-20 World Cup in 2017 , in which Germany failed in the round of 16 with 3: 4 n.V. to Zambia . Bader was on the field in three of four completed games.
