U-16 European Football Championship 2001

The 19th European Under-16 Football Championship was held in England from April 22 to May 6, 2001 . The winner was Spain with a 1: 0 victory over France . Germany failed in the quarter-finals on the hosts. Defending champions Portugal failed to qualify.

The age limit of 16 years was the last time. After the tournament, UEFA increased the age limit to 17 years.

mode

The 16 qualified teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team played each other once. The group winners and runners-up reached the quarter-finals. From there on, the knockout system continued.
