The 20th UEFA European Under-19 Championship was in the period from 13. bis 24. July 2004 in Switzerland held. The winner was Spain with a 1: 0 victory over Turkey . Germany and defending champion Italy were eliminated in third place after the preliminary round, the host team made it to the semi-finals, Austria could not qualify.

The eight qualified teams are divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team plays each other once. The first two in the group contest the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reach the final. In addition to the semi-finalists, the group third also qualified for the Junior World Cup in 2005 .

Spain became European U-19 champions for the third time. In addition to Spain and the host Netherlands , Germany , Italy , Switzerland , Spain , Turkey and Ukraine qualified for the 2005 World Junior Cup .
