Fernando Gabriel Amorebieta Mardaras (born March 29, 1985 in Cantaura ) is a Venezuelan - Spanish football player .

Career

Amorgebieta was born in Venezuela and has a Spanish and a Venezuelan passport. Since his parents are both from the Basque Country , he grew up in the Basque Country and was trained by Athletic Bilbao in his youth , he was allowed to play for Athletic according to the club's policy.

For the 2013/14 season Amorebieta moved to Fulham , where he signed a contract until June 30, 2017. In March 2015 he was awarded to Middlesbrough FC until the end of the season. The loan was extended for the new season.

National team

In August 2010, Amorebieta decided to play for the Venezuelan national team in the future . However, a little later he followed the advice of coach Joaquín Caparrós and President Fernando Macua not to be a Venezuela international for the time being.

In October 2011, in a 1-0 World Cup qualification in Puerto La Cruz , Amorebieta headed the goal for the first win against Argentina in Venezuela's national team history.
