Antonio Nocerino (born April 9, 1985 in Naples ) is a former Italian soccer player and current youth coach at Orlando City . He played in midfield a . a. at Juventus Turin and AC Milan and the Italian national team .

Career

In the club

Antonio Nocerino started his career in the youth department of Juventus Turin . After being loaned to US Avellino in 1912 , he moved to CFC Genoa in 2004 , which received 50% of his transfer rights as part of Domenico Criscito's move to Turin. After the manipulation scandal in 2006 , Juventus decided to buy back the transfer rights.

For the 2006/07 season switched to Piacenza Calcio , Nocerino developed there to the top performers in the midfield. In the summer of 2007, Juventus finally bought Piacenza's half of the transfer rights back for 3.7 million euros . Since Mauro Camoranesi had sustained an injury at the beginning of the season, Nocerino was used by coach Claudio Ranieri as his representative in the right midfield. When Camoranesi returned, Nocerino often played in defensive midfield, fought for a regular place and recommended himself for the national team.

For the 2008/09 season Nocerino was transferred to US Palermo ; his transfer was part of the move of the Brazilian- Italian striker Amauri from Palermo to Juventus. In Palermo he was a regular midfield player in 2008/09 .

On August 31, 2011, Nocerino signed a five-year contract with AC Milan , the Italian champions of the previous season .

In the course of investigations by the Italian authorities against several player agents (→ Italian football scandal 2013 ), Nocerino's contracts were also examined by the Guardia di Finanza in 2013 .

On January 25, 2014 Nocerino moved to the end of the season on loan in the Premier League to West Ham United . For the 2014/15 season he was loaned to Turin FC and was loaned to Parma FC in January until the end of the season .

In February 2016, Milan announced that the contract with Nocerino had been terminated by mutual agreement. A few days later, Nocerino moved to Orlando City in the North American Major League Soccer , where he only stayed until 2017. His last position as an active player was Benevento Calcio , where he played a few games in 2018. After a long period without a contract, he finally announced the end of his career in January 2020.

In the national team

Antonio Nocerino went through the Italian youth national teams since the U-19 , with the U-21 he took part in the 2007 European Championship .

On October 17, 2007 Nocerino made his debut under coach Roberto Donadoni in a 2-0 friendly game against South Africa in the senior team . He was the captain of the Italian Olympic selection for the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing .

Coaching career

Shortly after the announcement of the end of his career as a player, Nocerino moved back to Orlando City in January 2020, where he took up a position as a youth coach in the franchise's youth academy .
