Mauro Germán Serra Camoranesi [kamoraˈneːzi] (born October 4, 1976 in Tandil , Argentina ) is a former Argentine football player who played for the Italian national team. After stints in Argentina, Uruguay and Mexico, he played in Italy from 2000 to 2010 in Serie A for Hellas Verona and Juventus Turin and made a total of 274 games in which he scored 34 goals. After half a year in the Bundesliga in Germany at VfB Stuttgart , Camoranesi returned to Argentina, where he let his career end with CA Lanús and Racing Club . From 2003 to 2010 he played 55 times for the Squadra Azzurra and became world champion in Germany in 2006 .

Career

In the club

In the past, Mauro Camoranesi played for Santos Laguna (1996-1997) and CD Cruz Azul (1998-2000) in Mexico and for Club Atlético Banfield (1997-1998) in his native Argentina . In 2000 Camoranesi moved to Italy, where he first played for Hellas Verona .

In the summer of 2002 he was signed by record champions Juventus Turin . With the Turin team he won the Italian championship in 2003 . After Juventus due to the manipulation scandal after the 2005/06 season in the Serie B were relegated, made Transfer rumors about Camoranesi the round. The Bianconeri fans questioned Camoranesi's loyalty to the club and he was whistled by Juventus fans early in the 2006/07 season . With good performances, however, he won back the respect of the fans in the course of the season and was a regular in Didier Deschamps' team , which managed the direct promotion. In July 2007, his contract with Juve was extended to 2010, and in 2008 he extended it for another year. On August 7, 2010, Mauro Camoranesi dissolved his contract with the Turinese after he had been sidelined there.

After the Gazzetta dello Sport speculated on a move from Mauro Camoranesi to the Premier League to Birmingham City , he signed in the Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart at the end of August 2010 . There he received a one-year contract with an option for another season. He made his debut for Stuttgart on September 11, 2010, when he was in the starting line-up against SC Freiburg on the 3rd matchday of the 2010/11 Bundesliga season . VfB Stuttgart lost the game 1: 2 and the sports magazine “kicker” rated Camoranesi's performance with a grade of 3. Five days after the game, Christian Gross complained that Camoranesi had to show more efficiency and expected "more influence" from him. A day later he was in the first group game against Young Boys Bern in the first Europa League group game and showed a mixed to sufficient performance (kicker rating 4). Again two days later he came to his second Bundesliga game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 4 and showed a good performance. Camoranesi received a 2 from "kicker". For this reason Christian Gross was replaced by Jens Keller in October 2010 . Camoranesi lost his regular place under him. So he was not used at all or was only substituted. Only in the Europa League group matches against Getafe FC and in the second group match against Young Boys Bern he was in the starting line-up. After VfB temporarily left the relegation ranks, but slipped back there, Jens Keller also had to vacate his post. Bruno Labbadia became his successor. Camoranesi played under him in the last Europa League group game against Odense BK after being substituted on in the 62nd minute. On January 26, 2011, his contract was terminated and returned to Argentina. Camoranesi only made seven appearances for the Swabians in the league game, while he was used in all six group games in the Europa League.

On February 3, 2011, he joined CA Lanús and earned a regular position there, but was also noticed by his lack of discipline. In July 2012 he moved within the league to the Racing Club , but was not a regular there. In 2014 Mauro Camoranesi ended his active career.

In the national team

Camoranesi is from Argentina, but since his ancestors come from Italy and he did not play a game for the Argentine national team , he was eligible to play for the Italian national team. His first game for the Squadra Azzurra he completed on February 12, 2003 under Giovanni Trapattoni in the 1-0 victory in the friendly against Portugal in Genoa . In qualifying for the 2004 European Championship in Portugal , he made five appearances and was subsequently able to qualify with the Italians as group winners for the finals. Since he was used in the group games against Denmark and Sweden and was eliminated as third in the group .

He was also used in six games in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany .
