The Kratzen ( in Kölsch : Krätzje , Krätzge , plural: Krätzjer ) is a humorous narrative form for funny incidents or pranks within the " Rhenish humor ", which can also be presented as a vocal performance. Comparable forms from other language areas are also the Schwank and the Schnurre or the Bavarian-Austrian Gstanzl .

The name is in the diminutive Kritty, for small crack, Schrämmchen, prank, blow, push, hit, bat; in the figurative sense for joke, funny prank, purr or sway.

In terms of content, the kitty is a brief, funny occurrence that is usually concluded with a punch line. The events like to play in a familiar or at least familiar environment. The Kritty is also called the main expression of Rhenish humor, before the shorter joke and the Verzellche , a longer story.

Kritten are performed orally in a slow, paused manner, often with strong intonation or changes in intonation. Outside of the verbatim speech, it is popular to formulate it close to the telegram style . From the end of the 19th century, Krätze were also printed in joke sheets, for example in "Kölnische Käs-Blättche" (1881–1884), published by Maria Heinrich Hoster under his alter ego "Antun Meis". The magazines “Us Kölle för Kölle” (1905) and the “Funny Cologne Newspaper” (1925) also brought out numerous scraps and tears. At the end of 1930, Willi Ostermann brought out the similar paper "Tünnes und Schäl", which was discontinued in 1931.
