Rubén de la Red Gutiérrez (born June 5, 1985 in Móstoles ) is a former Spanish football player . During his professional career, the midfielder played for Real Madrid and Getafe FC . He also came to three appearances for the Spanish national football team , with which he was European champion in 2008 . After he had to end his playing career at the age of 25 for health reasons, he will work as a youth coach at Real Madrid from summer 2011.

Career as a player

CD Móstoles

Rubén de la Red began his footballing career with the Madrid suburban club CD Móstoles .

At the age of 14 he moved to Real Madrid's youth division. Since 2004 he has been an integral part of the second team Real Madrid Castilla , since 2005 he also played sporadically in the first team. He made his debut in the professional team of Real Madrid on November 10, 2004 in the Copa del Rey against CD Tenerife .

Loan to Getafe FC

In the summer of 2007 he moved to Getafe FC , although Real Madrid used an agreed buy-back option until 2008 and brought him back. Under the coach Bernd Schuster, he should fit into the first team. Back at Real Madrid

After he collapsed unconscious in a cup game in the 2008/09 season and doctors were unable to determine the cause later, Real Madrid withdrew his game license for the rest of the season. On July 2, 2009, it was finally announced that de la Red would not be part of the Real Madrid squad in the 2009/10 season either . Medical reports advised him against professional sports. The association continued to support him personally and professionally.

For the start of training in the 2010/11 season under the new coach José Mourinho , de la Red reported surprisingly back. He announced that he wanted to venture a comeback against the advice of his doctors and almost two years after his collapse .

He ended his career on November 3, 2010 at the age of 25 and in the summer of 2011 he became a youth coach at Real Madrid .

In the national team

Rubén de la Red won with Spain , the U-19 Euro 2004 . On May 17, 2006, he made his debut against Denmark in the Spanish U-21 team . For the friendly against Italy on March 26, 2008 de la Red was nominated for the first time for the senior national team , but was ultimately not used.

He made his national team debut against Peru on May 31, 2008 and subsequently won the European Championship in 2008 . Here he was used once and scored a goal in the group game against Greece.

Two years after he passed out in the Copa del Rey match against Real Unión Irún , he terminated his contract with Real Madrid, dated 2012, and signed a new contract as a youth coach on medical advice .
