Raúl Albiol Tortajada (born September 4, 1985 in Valencia ) is a Spanish football player . The central defender played for the Italian first division club SSC Napoli for six years . He has been under contract with FC Villarreal since 2019 .
Career
Raúl Albiol started of with young people Valencia . In the 2004/05 season Albiol was awarded to promoted Getafe FC . There he was used in 17 games and scored a goal against Real Madrid on March 13, 2005.
He then went back to Valencia, where he made his league debut for the club on August 27, 2005. His first league goal as a Valencia player came on December 18, 2005 against Deportivo Alavés . Since the 2005/06 season was Albiol regular at FC Valencia . In 2008 he won the Spanish Cup with Valencia .
In the summer of 2009 Albiol moved to Real Madrid . In the 2009/10 season he was a regular in the central defense of the Royal with 33 league appearances . With the commitment of Ricardo Carvalho Albiol lost this regular place in the 2010/11 season , but came to another 20 league games. In the 2011/12 season he was only a supplementary player with 10 appearances when winning the Spanish championship.
For the 2013/14 season Albiol joined for eleven million euros to Napoli in the Serie A . He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2017, which he extended to 2020 in September 2016.
National team
On October 13, 2007 Albiol came in the 3-1 away win over Denmark for the first time in the Spanish national football team and played through. In 2008 he won the title at the European Football Championship with Spain . Even when Spain won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 two and four years later , Albiol was part of the squad, but was not used on both occasions during the tournament.
