Matías Nahuel Leiva Esquivel (born October 22, 1996 in Rosario ) is a Spanish - Argentine football player who is under contract with CD Tenerife .

Career

society

At the age of 14, Leiva moved from his home country to Spain to join the youth team at Villarreal . In February 2013 he made his debut for Villarreal's B team in Segunda División B when he came on as a substitute for Pablo González on matchday 27 of the 2012/13 season against UE Llagostera in the 63rd minute . By the end of the season he had played six third division games. In September 2013, he scored his first goal for Villarreal B in a 2-1 win over Lleida Esportiu .

In January 2014, he made his debut for the pros in the Primera División when he was brought into play on the 19th matchday of the 2013/14 season against Real Sociedad San Sebastián in the 65th minute for Moi Gómez . By the end of the 2013/14 season he made five first division appearances for the professionals and 27 for the reserve. In the 2014/15 season he remained without league use for the professionals, for the third division team he was used in 31 games in which he scored six goals. In the 2015/16 season he made 20 appearances in the top Spanish league, for the B-team he was no longer used in that season.

In the summer of 2016 it was awarded to league rivals Betis Sevilla for two years . In his first season at Betis, he came to ten league appearances.

After seven more in the 2017/18 season, he was loaned out to second team at FC Barcelona on January 29, 2018 early until the end of the 2017/18 season . For Barcelona B he came to the end of the season to 18 appearances in the Segunda División , in which he scored five goals. However, with the team he rose to the Segunda División B.

After the loan ended, he moved to Olympiacos Piraeus in Greece in August 2018 . After playing only four Super League games for Piraeus , he returned to Spain on loan in January 2019 and moved to the second division club Deportivo La Coruña . The Galicians secured options to extend the loan and purchase Leiva. For Deportivo La Coruña he played 13 games in the Segunda División by the end of the 2018/19 season and missed promotion to the final of the playoffs with the club. After the loan ended, none of the existing options were drawn and Leiva returned to Greece.

National team

Leiva was part of the Spanish U19 national team , which won the 2015 U-19 European Football Championship in Greece. In the course of the European Championship he scored twice, once against Germany and against Russia .

From October 2015 to September 2017 he played twice for the U-21 team .
