Karl Toko Ekambi (born September 14, 1992 in Paris ) is a Cameroonian football player who has been under contract with the French first division club Olympique Lyon since January 2020 . The striker has been a Cameroonian international since June 2015 .
Career

Toko Ekambi, who was born and raised in Paris , started his professional career in 2010 with Paris FC . In 2014 he moved to the second division club FC Sochaux . He made his debut for Sochaux-Montbéliard on the first day of the 2014/15 season against US Orléans . In this season he was in all 39 competitive games of his club on the field and scored 14 goals. After being in the following season 2015/16 could hit 11 times, to substitute season 2016/17 in the Ligue 1 to SCO Angers . The 2017/18 season got off to an excellent start for Toko Ekambi. With 9 goals in 18 appearances, he aroused the interest of English Premier League clubs. However, a specific offer from Brighton & Hove Albion was rejected by Angers. On February 24, 2018, Toko Ekambi scored the two goals in a 2-1 away win against OSC Lille . With this victory Angers left the relegation ranks, from which one could stay away afterwards. Toko Ekambi was with 17 goals and 6 assists an important factor that Angers was able to prevent relegation.
On June 6, 2018, Karl Toko Ekambi moved to the Spanish Primera División club FC Villarreal . Villarreal paid a club-internal record transfer fee of 18 million euros for Ekambi's services. He made his debut for the Yellow Submarines on August 18, 2018 against Real Sociedad . In his first season 2018/19 , he scored ten goals in 34 league games. Before moving in January, he had scored six goals in 18 league games in the 2019/20 season .
On January 20, 2020, Karl Toko Ekambi returned to France on loan, where he joined the first division club Olympique Lyon for a fee of four million euros . The traditional club has a purchase option of 11.5 million euros. Just six days later, he was in the starting line-up in a 3-0 home win against FC Toulouse and scored his first goal. In the 2019/20 season , which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic , he played eight league games in which he scored two goals.
On July 1, 2020, he moved permanently to Olympique Lyon for a transfer fee of 11.5 million euros.
