Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (born May 15, 1989 in Bangui , Central African Republic ) is a French - Central African football player who is currently under contract with Olympique Lyon .

Career

In the club

Yanga-Mbiwa was born in Bangui , the capital of the Central African Republic , but grew up in the southern French community of Port-de-Bouc near Marseille . In 2005 he joined the youth department of HSC Montpellier .

In the 2006/07 season , he played for the first team in Ligue 2 for the first time on February 23, 2007 against SC Bastia . If there was still one mission this season, he was used in 34 games in the following season and became a regular player over the course of the season. On May 12, 2008, he scored his first goal against FC Gueugnon . In the 2008/09 season he continued to play regularly and reached second place with his club, which meant promotion to Ligue 1 . In total, he played 64 times (2 goals) for Montpellier in the second division.

He made his first division debut on the first day of the following season 2009/10 in a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain . At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he also celebrated his debut on the international stage when he played in the two games of the third qualifying round for the Europa League against the Hungarian representative Győri ETO FC ; Montpellier lost this duel on penalties. Things did not go well in the league either and Montpellier was almost relegated in fourth place. In the following season he played 34 games together with Hilton in central defense and was thus significantly involved in the surprising win of the French championship .

In the 2012/13 season Yanga-Mbiwa played for the first time in the UEFA Champions League . He was used in all six group games. For the first time on September 18, 2012 against Arsenal . With only two points, however, Montpellier was eliminated after the preliminary round.

On January 23, 2013 Yanga-Mbiwa moved to the Premier League for Newcastle United . He signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2018. On September 1, 2014, Yabga-Mbiwa will be loaned to AS Roma for a period of one year . In January 2015, Rome and Newcastle announced that Yanga-Mbiwa had finally moved to AS Roma to fulfill a contract option.

On August 15, 2015, he joined Olympique Lyon .

In the national team

Yanga-Mbiwa played eight games for the French U-21 national team . He made his debut on August 12, 2010 in qualifying for the 2011 U-21 European Championship against Belgium . He scored his only goal on September 7, 2010 in a 2-0 win over Malta .

In May 2012, national coach Laurent Blanc named him for the provisional, but then not for the final French A squad for the European Championship . On August 15, 2012, Yanga-Mbiwa finally made his debut in the game against Uruguay in the French national team .
