Jason Grégory Marianne Denayer (born June 28, 1995 in Brussels ) is a Belgian national football player . The defender is under contract with Olympique Lyon .

Career

In the club

Denayer played among other things in the youth of RSC Anderlecht . In 2012 he moved to the Manchester City youth team . Denayer played with the A-youth in the UEFA Youth League . In the 2013/14 season he came to Premier League 2 for his first appearances in the men's area.

On August 12, 2014 Denayer moved to Celtic Glasgow on loan until the end of the 2014/15 season . He made his debut in the Scottish Premiership on August 16, 2014 against Dundee United . Four days later, he played in the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League play-offs against Slovenian champions NK Maribor . The Scots achieved a 1-1 draw in Maribor, but then lost the home game in which he was not used with 0-1. They were then able to continue playing in the group stage of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League . Here he was used in four games and as second in the group behind FC Salzburg they reached the round of 32 against Inter Milan . Substitute Swede John Guidetti scored the 3: 3 equalizer against the Italians in stoppage time in the first leg in Glasgow . They then lost the second leg with a goal in the 88th minute with 0: 1.

For the 2015/16 season Denayer initially returned to Manchester City. On the first and third day of the game he was in the games against West Bromwich Albion and Everton in the day squad, but was not substituted on by coach Manuel Pellegrini . On August 31, 2015 Denayer was loaned by Galatasaray Istanbul and played with the German international Lukas Podolski . For Galatasaray Istanbul he made 17 appearances in the Süper Lig and was the Turkish cup winner at the end of the season . He was featured in four games in the group stage of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League . The Turks finished in third place behind Atlético Madrid and Benfica Lisbon , which enabled them to continue playing in the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League . Here, too, he was used in both games against Lazio . After a 1-1 home game, the second leg at the Olympic Stadium in Rome was lost 3-1.

For the season 2016/17 returned Denayer again to Manchester City back. On August 31, 2016, he was loaned to Sunderland AFC until the end of the season. There he came to 24 league appearances. He ended the season with the team in last place in the table. Denayer initially returned to Manchester in the summer of 2017. On August 31, 2017, he was loaned to Galatasaray Istanbul again until the end of the 2017/18 season. At the end of the season, Denayer became Turkish champions with Galatasaray.

On August 21, 2018 Denayer signed a four-year contract with the French club Olympique Lyon .

In the national team

Denayer, who has a Congolese mother and a Belgian father, played for the Belgian U-19 team for the first time in August 2013 and took part in the first qualifying round for the 2014 U-19 European Football Championship in October 2013 . He came to two missions and was able to eliminate U-20 world champions France as the winner of the four-tier tournament in his home country . At the elite tournament of the second qualifying round in Portugal in May 2014, the Belgians only finished third behind hosts Portugal and Wales . Two months earlier he had already been used for the first time in the U-21 team in the qualification for the U-21 European Championship 2015 , but lost to Serbia 3-0. In the last qualifying game in September 2014 in a 6-0 win against Cyprus , he scored the goal to make it 2-0. Due to the defeat against Serbia, however, they had lost the direct comparison against the Serbs and thus missed the play-offs. In November, he was then the friendly match of the senior team against Iceland invited, but just sat on the bench. He made his first appearance for the A-Elf on March 31, 2015 in the European Championship qualifier against Israel , when he came on in the 67th minute. In his second game on June 7, he started the friendly against France for the first time, but was replaced after 85 minutes due to a slight injury at 4: 1 for Leander Dendoncker , who thus came to his first international match. In the minutes that followed, the French were able to score two more goals. Five days later he played in the 1-0 loss to Wales in the European Championship qualifier over 90 minutes. After successfully qualifying for the European Championship, he was used in four friendly matches and then became the youngest Belgian to join the Belgian squad for the 2016 European Football Championship in France. There he was only used in the quarter-finals for the injured Jan Vertonghen , but could not replace him equally and Belgium lost 3-1 to EM newcomer Wales .
