← UEFA Champions League 2013/14
|
|
The final took place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
The UEFA Champions League 2014/15 was 23 . Playing time of the most important European competition for club teams in football under this name and the 60 . all in all. 77 clubs from 53 national associations took part in the competition. This season was the first time a team from Gibraltar started. Only Liechtenstein did not provide a representative, as the local football association does not hold its own championship.
The season began with the first qualifying round on July 1, 2014 and ended with the final on June 6, 2015 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium , the home of Hertha BSC . The winner will qualify for the 2015 UEFA Super Cup and the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup . The defending champion was Real Madrid .
In the final, FC Barcelona prevailed against Juventus Turin and, after 2009, won the triple of national championship, national cup and UEFA Champions League for the second time in the club's history .
In May 2013, the UEFA Congress accepted the Gibraltar Football Association as a full member and confirmed that clubs belonging to the Gibraltar Football Association will take part in UEFA competitions from the 2014/15 season. The champions from Gibraltar started in the first qualifying round.
Qualifying rounds
In the draws, the teams were divided into seeded (stronger) and unseeded (weaker) teams according to their club coefficients and drawn among each other.
1st qualifying round
Draw: June 23, 2014 in Nyon
First legs: July 1 and 2, 2014 Second
legs: July 8 and 9, 2014
The following pairings were drawn for the first qualifying round:
2nd qualifying round
Draw: June 23, 2014 in Nyon (together with Q1)
First legs: July 15 and 16, 2014
Second legs: July 22 and 23, 2014
The following pairings were drawn for the second qualifying round:
3rd qualifying round
From the third qualifying round onwards there were two separate pots: national champions were drawn only against other national champions (“champions path”), whereas “pursuers”, i.e. clubs placed second, third or fourth, were drawn only against other “pursuers” (“league path "). Losing teams moved to the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League . Due to the situation in Ukraine , Zenit St. Petersburg and FK Dnipro were not drawn against each other.
Draw: July 18, 2014 in Nyon
First legs: July 29 and 30, 2014
Second legs: August 5 and 6, 2014
The following pairings were drawn for the third qualifying round:
Master path
2The game ended in a 2-0 win for Legia Warsaw. However, Celtic Glasgow filed a complaint about a substitutional error.
Bartosz Bereszyński , who came on as a substitute in the 88th minute, was sent off in Legia's last game in the pre-season of the Europa League, resulting in a three-game suspension. Since he was not reported by Legia in the two games against St Patrick's Athletic and the first leg against Celtic, these were not counted towards the suspension. UEFA rated the game 3-0 for Celtic.
League path
Play-offs
The fourth and final qualifying round was called "play-offs" for better marketing opportunities. From this round onwards, all games were marketed centrally by UEFA in order to generate greater media attention and thus increased advertising income. Losing teams competed in the group stage of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League.
First legs: August 19 and 20, 2014
Second legs: August 26 and 27, 2014
Master path
The second leg between Ludogorez Razgrad and Steaua Bucharest attracted international attention: Ludogorez only reached extra time in the last minute with a volley shot by Wanderson from the corner of the penalty area, in which her goalkeeper Wladislaw Stojanow was sent off in the 119th minute because of an " emergency brake ". Since Ludogorez had exhausted the exchange contingent, the central defender Cosmin Moți went in goal and converted one penalty himself in the decisive penalty shoot-out and saved two of the opponent.
League path
Group stage
32 teams from 18 national associations took part in the group stage. 22 teams were directly qualified, plus ten clubs (five each via the champions path and the placement path) from the qualifying rounds.
The group winners and runners-up qualified for the round of 16, the group third played in the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League , the group fourth were eliminated from the competition. If two or more teams were tied after the group matches, the placement was determined by the following criteria:
- Number of points in direct comparison
- Goal difference in direct comparison
- Number of goals in direct comparison
- Number of away goals in direct comparison
- If, after applying criteria 1-4, two or more teams still occupy the same place in the table, criteria 1-4 are reapplied for these teams. If this does not result in a definitive placement, criteria 6–8 will be applied.
- Goal difference from all group matches
- higher number of goals scored
- Club coefficients
