The Petrovsky Stadium ( Russian Петровский (стадион) ) is a Russian sports complex with numerous buildings, a football stadium with an athletics facility and was the home of the Zenit St. Petersburg football club until it moved to the St. Petersburg Stadium in 2017 . The stadium capacity today is 20,985 spectators. Since being promoted to the Premjer League in 2017/18 , FK Tosno has played its home games in Petrowski .
history
The stadium opened on July 26, 1925. Until 1992 the sports facility was called the Lenin Stadium . It has been expanded and renovated several times until today. It is located on Petrovsky Island ( Russian Петровский остров ), surrounded by the Kleine Neva River ( Russian Малая Нева ) and can only be reached by spectators via a bridge. Due to the strange position in the middle of an island and the exposed weather as a result, the building was largely criticized. Between 1957 and 1961 the capacity was increased to 33,000 seats. In 1994, the Petrowski was a venue for the Goodwill Games . For this event, the stadium was reduced to 21,570 seats.
