Beginnings

Munir was born in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, near the capital, Madrid , to a Moroccan father who came to Spain by boat as an illegal immigrant and a Spanish mother from the Spanish exclave of Melilla . He started playing soccer at CD Galapagar and DAV Santa Ana before moving to Rayo Majadahonda , a club from the Majadahonda suburb of Madrid, related to Atlético Madrid in 2010 . There he scored 32 goals in 29 appearances in his first season and attracted the interest of other clubs. As a result, Munir moved in 2011 to the youth of FC Barcelona . In the A youth he made his debut in the UEFA Youth League against Ajax Amsterdam , in which he scored two goals. He scored twice against AC Milan and FC Copenhagen and ended the tournament with eleven goals in ten games. In the final he scored twice against Benfica Lisbon again.

In early 2014, he was associated with clubs such as Arsenal FC , Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich . Arsène Wenger called him "the next Cesc Fàbregas ". On March 3, 2014, Munir extended his contract with the club to June 2017 with a € 12 million release clause that will rise to € 35 million when he joins the first team .

After only sitting on the bench against CD Tenerife and Deportivo La Coruña , Munir made his professional debut for FC Barcelona B on March 2, 2014 in a 2-1 away win against RCD Mallorca in the Spanish second division after playing in the 72nd minute had been substituted. He scored his first professional goal in a 2-1 home win against FC Girona on April 19th. In this game he was substituted on in the 86th minute when the score was 1: 1.

Professional debut at FC Barcelona

In the summer, Munir took part in the preparation of the first team for the 2014/15 season and performed well in the friendly matches. He scored two goals in the game for the Joan Gamper Trophy - the season opener for FC Barcelona - in a 6-0 win against Club León after being substituted on. Under contract law, Munir belongs to the second team of FC Barcelona in the 2014/15 season, as he does not yet have a professional contract. On August 24, 2014, he made his debut on the first day of the game in a 3-0 win against FC Elche in the Primera División . In the 46th minute of the game, he scored the interim 2-0. In December 2014, Munir's release clause was increased to 35 million euros. By the end of the season Munir played mostly in the second team, for which he came on 17 league appearances (four goals). In the first team, he contributed ten league (one goal) and three cup and Champions League appearances (without a personal goal) to win the triple .

For the 2015/16 season Munir moved up firmly in the first team squad. In July 2016, he extended his contract to June 30, 2019.

As a loan player in Valencia and Alavés

It was awarded to Valencia CF in August 2016 . There he came to 33 league appearances in which he scored six goals.

For the season 2017/18 returned Munir back to Barcelona. After he had not been considered in the first competitive games, he was loaned to league rivals Deportivo Alavés on September 1, 2017, the last day of the Spanish transfer window, until the end of the season.

Sevilla FC

On January 12, 2019, Munir moved to Sevilla FC for a transfer fee of EUR 1.05 million , with whom he signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2023.

National team

In June 2014 Munir played for the Spanish U-19s for the first time . On September 4, 2014, he was used for the first time in the U-21 selection . Four days later - on September 8, 2014 - he made his debut in the A-selection when he came on for Koke in the 77th minute of the 5-1 victory in the European Championship qualifier against Macedonia . He had previously been nominated by coach Vicente del Bosque for the injured Diego Costa .

Munir could have played in the national team for Morocco, his father's home country, but this is no longer possible because of his game for Spain. In the run-up to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, however, the player applied for approval to change nations together with the Moroccan association . After this was rejected by FIFA , the player appealed to the CAS Sports Court .
