Joan Gamper Trophy

The Joan Gamper Trophy ( Catalan Trofeu Joan Gamper ) is a football - friendly match that of FC Barcelona in honor of its founder Joan Gamper (1877-1930) a year in August, shortly before the start of the Primera División in Camp Nou discharges.

Until 1996 the event was held as a tournament with four teams and was named Torneig Joan Gamper (Catalan for Joan Gamper tournament ). Due to the earlier start of the national and international championships, only FC Barcelona has played against a selected opponent for the Joan Gamper Trophy since 1997. A possible extension after 90 minutes has also been dispensed with since 1997 and the winner is determined directly in the penalty shoot-out .

FC Barcelona won 42 of the 53 events to date. With two successes, 1. FC Köln (1978, 1981) won the tournament the second most. With Borussia Mönchengladbach (1972) there is another German club that won the Joan Gamper tournament.
