The FC Urartu Yerevan is an Armenian football club from the capital Yerevan , which is currently in the Bardsragujn chumb (first league) plays.

history

The club was as Banants Kotayk 1992 in Abovyan (Region Kotayk founded). In the same year they won the first cup competition when Homenetmen Yerevan could be defeated by a 2-0 victory in the final. Between 1995 and 2001 the club merged with FC Kotajk Abovjan . After the separation in 2001, they moved to Yerevan, where they have been playing ever since.

In early 2003 the club merged with the younger Spartak Yerevan , with the communist club name Spartak disappearing. Well-known players like Samwel Melkonjan played under banants. In 2007, thanks to professional work, the Armenian Cup was won.

In recent years Banants was able to place itself several times on the top ranks of the Bardsragujn chumb and thus reached the qualifying round of the UEFA Cup , but failed there regularly. In 2003 and 2004 they were also in the final of the national cup. MIKA Ashtarak (1-0) and FC Pjunik Yerevan (6-5 after penalties ) were too strong for the club.

In the 2012/13 season Banants occupied only eighth place in the table and would actually have relegated to the Arajin chumb , but impulse Dilijan withdrew voluntarily on June 26, 2013, whereby the FC Banants still held the class as bottom of the table.

In the 2013/14 season, FC Banants became Armenian champions for the first time and thus took part in qualifying for the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League , where they failed in the first round at FC Santa Coloma .

In August 2019 the club was renamed from "FC Banants" to "FC Urartu".
