The 2003/04 UEFA Cup was the 33rd edition of the competition and was won 2-0 by Valencia FC against Olympique Marseille . The final took place in the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg .

All clubs that had occupied one of the UEFA Cup places regulated by the UEFA five-year ranking at the end of last season were eligible to participate . As in the previous year, three clubs qualified for the first round via the UEFA Intertoto Cup . The competition was played in seven rounds in two legs (excluding the finals). In the event of a tie, the number of goals scored away was decided first , then overtime, if no decision was reached after 15 minutes twice, a penalty shoot-out followed until the winner was determined. In the third round, the eight clubs eliminated from the group stage of the Champions League as third-placed clubs joined the field of participants.

1 round
The FC Schalke 04 , the Villarreal and AC Perugia Calcio qualified via the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2003 for the first round.
The first leg took place on September 24, 2003, the second leg on October 15, 2003.
2nd round
The first leg took place on November 6, 2003, the second leg on November 27, 2003.
3rd round
Celtic Glasgow , Inter Milan , PSV Eindhoven , Galatasaray Istanbul , Panathinaikos Athens , Olympique Marseille , Beşiktaş Istanbul and Club Bruges qualified third in the group stage of the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League for the third round.
The first leg took place on February 26, the second leg on March 3, 2004.
