Miguel Ángel Angulo Valderrey (born June 23, 1977 in Oviedo ), Angulo for short , is a former Spanish football player .
The aggressively flexible player was under contract for the majority of his career at Valencia CF.
Club career
Angulo began his career in the Sporting Gijón youth team in his hometown. His next club was the youth team of Valencia CF in 1995. Valencia's B team then went on loan to the then second division Villarreal CF in the 1996/97 season . Then he played again at Valencia CF. There he was not always an undisputed regular player, but scored some important goals and played over 300 games for Valencia. He also won the Spanish championship twice ( 2002 , 2004 ), the Spanish Cup (1999, 2008) and once the UEFA Cup ( 2004 ).
Angulo made headlines during a Champions League game in the 2004/05 season when he spat at his opponent Tim Borowski in the decisive preliminary round match against Werder Bremen when the score was 0: 1 . After a rough attack against his teammate Nelson Valdez , he had recently received a dismissal (90th). Overall, he was sentenced to seven games suspension by UEFA .
Angulo was excluded from team training in December 2007, along with his fellow players Santiago Cañizares and David Albelda, by coach Ronald Koeman for no reason. Koeman wanted to create a "revolution" in Valencia, but since he did not succeed, the three banned players were called back to the team by new coach Voro at the end of April 2008 . In the 2008/09 season he was mostly used as a joker.
In August 2009 he went to Sporting Lisbon for a year on a free transfer . Four months and four appearances for the Lisbon club later, Angulo dissolved his contract and ended his professional career.
National team career
Angulo played eleven times for the Spanish national team . He played his first game in November 2000 in a 1-0 win over England . He couldn't take part in a major tournament, apart from his Olympic victory with Spain at the 2000 Summer Games .
