MŠK Púchov is a Slovak football club from Púchov , which currently plays in the second highest Slovak division .
history
The first football club in Púchov was founded in 1920. The club's development only really started after the Second World War. In 1950 and 1963 Púchov played in the 2nd Slovak division. Later they played in the 3rd division for a few years. From 1974 to 1986 (with the exception of the 1982/1983 season) the team played under the name "Gumárne 1.mája Púchov" in what was then the SNL and in the ČNL, the former Czechoslovak second division. After the independence of Slovakia (1993) the club played under the name "ŠK Matador Púchov" in the 2nd Slovak league and since 2000 in the 1st Slovak league . In July 2006 the main sponsor Matador got out and the club was relegated to the 3rd division. In addition, the name part Matador was removed from the club name. As FK Púchov, the club played for the next three years in the third division second division before rising to the first division (second highest division) at the end of the 2008/09 season.
The club also took part in the UEFA Cup twice ( 2002/03 , 2003/04 ). In the 2003/2004 season, the club was eliminated in the first round against FC Barcelona . A 1-1 draw in the first leg was followed by an 8-0 defeat away from Barcelona.
Púchov has been playing in the highest Czechoslovak and later Slovak youth competition since 1962.
