Miguel Ángel Ferrer Martínez (born November 12, 1978 in Caravaca de la Cruz , Murcia ), Mista for short , is a former Spanish football player who was primarily used in the storm.
Mista is currently assistant coach of the Spanish football club Huracán Valencia CF .
Career
As a youth player
Mista began his youth career at the age of 11 with his home club Peña Madridista , from where he moved 4 years later to local rivals Caravaca Promesas . But after just one season, Real Madrid's youth coach Rafael Benítez discovered him , whereupon Mista was accepted into the royal youth squad .
As a professional
Benítez continued to develop him, so that he scored 19 goals in the first two seasons for Real Madrid B. After Benítez left Real in 1997, Mista was first loaned to CD Tenerife , but then moved completely to the Canaries in 1999. Benítez, who was also hired by CD Tenerife in the 2000/2001 season, surprisingly rose with the club at the end of the season. Thereupon the FC Valencia courted him and Benítez pulled his protégé with them. In Valencia Mista scored 44 goals in 144 competitive games and became a central member of the successful team that won the Primera División in the 2001/2002 and 2003/2004 seasons. This superior performance was in 2004 with the victory in the UEFA Cup final will be crowned what Mista was involved with a goal in the 58th minute instrumental.
After a restrained 2005/2006 season, Mista was finally unable to prevail against new signing David Villa , so he moved to Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2006 for 5 million euros , where he signed a four-year contract. Still set in the first season, he was ousted by expensive newcomers and was only used as a supplementary player in 2007/08.
Deportivos President Augusto César announced in July 2008 that Mista, who had terminated his contract with Atletico himself, was moving to La Coruña on a free transfer . Here he signed a three-year contract. In the summer of 2010, the Canadian MLS club Toronto FC signed the Spaniard, who left the club after just one season to finally say goodbye to professional football.
In the national team
Mista made his debut on October 12, 2005 in San Marino in the national team. In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup he was substituted on by Luis Aragonés in the 72nd minute. The game ended 0: 6 (0: 3). For the 2006 World Cup , as well as for the 2008 European Championship , Mista was not considered in the Spanish team.
