Pablo César Aimar (born November 3, 1979 in Río Cuarto , Córdoba , Argentina ) is a former Argentine football player and current coach .
Career
society
Aimar began his football career at CA River Plate . He moved to Valencia CF in the Primera División during the 2000/01 season for a sum of 21.25 million euros . He played for Valencia until the 2005/06 season, the following season the Argentine moved to Real Zaragoza for 10.2 million euros . He played in Saragossa for two years before moving to Benfica Lisbon in the Portuguese capital for a transfer fee of 6.5 million euros . Since 2015 he has been under contract with the Argentine first division club CA River Plate.
On July 15, 2015, he announced the end of his career.
National team
Aimar has a total of 52 appearances in the Argentine national team . He took part in the Confederations Cup in 2005 , but lost there with his team in the final against South American arch-rivals Brazil 1: 4. He also took part with Argentina in the 2006 World Cup and failed in the quarter-finals on penalties against Germany. At the World Cup, Aimar did not appear in the starting XI with three substitutions and was also on the bench in the decisive game. After not being considered for more than two years, he surprisingly celebrated his comeback in the national team in October 2009 in the World Cup qualifier against Peru.
Trainer
On August 2, 2018, he became assistant to interim coach Lionel Scaloni for the Argentine national team .
