  • Priština / Kosovo , Skopje / Macedonia : The parliaments of both countries ratify a state treaty defining the common state border and thus for the first time define the border between the two neighboring states in an internationally binding manner.
  • Wasiristan / Pakistan : In response to several attacks by the Taliban in the tribal region of Wasiristan bordering Afghanistan , the army begins a major offensive against the radical Islamic Taliban. In the offensive on three fronts, 30,000 soldiers are deployed for six to eight weeks.
