- Bucharest / Romania : After only nine months in office, the coalition government of Emil Boc breaks up in disputes between the governing parties Democratic-Liberal Party (PD-L) and Partidul Social Democrat (PSD) in the run-up to the presidential elections . Twelve days later and six weeks before the presidential elections, Prime Minister Emil Boc's attempt to continue to govern alone with his party PD-L fails due to a vote of no confidence by the opposition parties, the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) as well as the former government partner PSD.

- Mekong / Cambodia : 17 people died in the northeast of the country when an overloaded river ferry went down.
- Rawalpindi / Pakistan : The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attacked the army headquarters in the garrison town and took 40 soldiers hostage for 24 hours until a special detachment bloody ended the hostage-taking, killing nine people. The attack on the army headquarters raises concerns about the security of nuclear weapons in the country.

- Wasiristan / Pakistan : In response to several attacks by the Taliban in the tribal region of Wasiristan bordering Afghanistan , the army begins a major offensive against the radical Islamic Taliban. In the offensive on three fronts, 30,000 soldiers are deployed for six to eight weeks.

- Sistan / Iran : 42 people die and 28 others are injured in a suicide attack on the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard in the border area with Afghanistan . At least six leading commanders of the Revolutionary Guard were among the dead, including General Nur Ali Shushari of the Pasdaran ground forces. The Sunni " Jundallah " (God's brigade), which has already detonated several car bombs, has committed itself to the attack . Iran blames the United States for the attack.
