Peter Burgstaller (born February 13, 1964 - † November 23, 2007 in Durban , South Africa ) was an Austrian soccer goalie .

Career

Peter Burgstaller began his professional career at the Favoritner AC , where he was able to establish himself as a regular goalkeeper in the 1st division between 1983 and 1985 at the age of only 19 and made a total of 41 league appearances. During this time he also made his debut on March 12, 1985 against Italy in the Austrian U-21 national team. After the relegation of the favorites followed a change to SSW Innsbruck , with which the third place in the table was achieved, but the internationally experienced Tomislav Ivković replaced Peter Burgstaller as a one-man goal. In 1986, Peter Burgstaller moved to the Grazer AK , where he remained behind Manfred Trost , also because he tore a ligament in his knee after 35 minutes during his first league appearance for the Graz team. In 1987 he moved on to VfB Mödling , with whose team he was relegated to the 2nd division .

In 1988 Peter Burgstaller moved to SV Austria Salzburg within the 2nd division . With the Mozart townspeople he was one of the heroes of the rise who managed to return to the 1st division in 1989. In the 1989/90 season he made his last first division appearances there. He later settled in nearby St. Lorenz and ran the Hallein event agency BSP . Peter Burgstaller was shot and killed on November 23, 2007 in a robbery on a golf course in the run-up to his visit to the draw for the qualification phase for the 2010 soccer World Cup in Durban, South Africa .
