An EC regulation prohibits the manufacture of matt and clear incandescent lamps with an output of more than 75 watts , because most of the energy emitted is emitted as heat instead of light . As a result, consumers are increasingly turning to the “prohibited” products on the market.
- Diktel / Nepal : 14 people are missing after a landslide in a mountain village in the northeast of the country.

- Lima / Peru : Fighters of the rebel group Shining Path shoot down an Air Force helicopter, three soldiers are killed and five others are wounded. The rebels attacked army patrols and a post over the past week, killing a total of five soldiers.
- Moscow / Russia : In the capital, the international airport Sheremetyevo-2 is temporarily paralyzed due to a lack of staff. All scheduled flights cannot take off as planned.
- Baja California / Mexico : At least one person is killed in floods on the peninsula. Hundreds of people in remote fishing villages have been cut off. The floods came from heavy rains that Hurricane Jimena brought to the region.
- Nowa Kachowka / Ukraine : Almost 170 criminals storm a cognac factory and engage in violent clashes with the workforce and the police. Around 40 people are injured and 168 suspects are arrested.

- Lake Ohrid / Macedonia : At least 17 people are killed in a ship accident. An excursion boat, on which there are mainly Bulgarian tourists , capsizes about 300 meters from the coast. 53 passengers were rescued, some of those rescued suffered injuries.
- West , Central Africa : Around 350,000 people have to leave their homes due to flooding . At least 30 people die in Ghana and Burkina Faso alone . As a result, over 600,000 people were affected by the flood.

- Berlin / Germany : Former RAF terrorist Verena Becker is taken to prison. The 57-year-old was transferred from pre-trial detention in Karlsruhe to the capital. According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office , Becker is strongly suspected of having been involved in the murder of Federal Prosecutor General Siegfried Buback and two of his companions by the Red Army faction on April 7, 1977 in Karlsruhe.
- Istanbul / Turkey : After a heavy storm with heavy rains, a family of five is missing in the northwest of the country. In the Black Sea , a cargo ship anchored off the Turkish coastal town of Kilyos breaks and the crew is rescued. On Wednesday, a tidal wave in Istanbul kills at least 31 people.
- Pingdingshan / China : In a mine accident in Henan province , at least 35 miners are killed after a gas explosion , and 44 others are trapped in the coal mine.

- São Paulo / Brazil : A tornado-like storm kills at least 17 people in South America . The storm moves with heavy rain, hail showers and strong winds over northern Argentina , Uruguay , Paraguay and southern Brazil.

- Kampala / Uganda : At least seven people are killed and dozen injured in demonstrations against a ban on visiting Baganda King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
- Norte de Santander / Colombia : Two civilians were killed and six soldiers were injured in a bomb attack with the help of a donkey in northern Colombia. The dead belonged to a group of workers who cleared illegal coca fields in the province under the protection of soldiers. The bomb was attached to a donkey and detonated by remote control the day before.
- Taipei / Taiwan : Former President Chen Shui-bian is sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption .

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and Guido Westerwelle (FDP) announce that they want to form the new government coalition.
- Bern / Switzerland : In a referendum, the people accept a temporary increase in VAT to provide additional financing for disability insurance and abolish the general popular initiative .
- Kiel / Germany : In the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein , both CDU and SPD lose over 10 percentage points each, but the CDU remains the strongest force.
