Yala ( Thai ยะลา , Malay Jolor ) is a city ( เทศบาล นคร ยะลา ) in the Thai province of Yala . It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Yala and the capital of the province Yala in the extreme south of the southern region of Thailand .

geography
Yala is located near the border with Malaysia in the extreme south of Thailand. It is a bustling trading city, with a population consisting mainly of Chinese and Muslim Malay.
The surrounding area consists of mountainous land covered with tropical rainforest , and numerous limestone cliffs protrude from the south-facing plain . Due to its proximity to the equator, significant rainfall can occur throughout the year.
Economy and Transport
The main branch of the economy is trade with Malaysia, which is firmly in Chinese hands. In addition, rubber is grown and processed.
Yala has a train station on the Southern Railway , which connects Bangkok with Malaysia .
Attractions
- Wat Khuha Phimuk ( วัด คูหา ภิ มุข , also Wat Na Tham) - 1200 year old rock temple on the outskirts with an almost 25 meter long reclining Buddha statue in a nearby cave.
