Hua Hin ( Thai : หัวหิน , pronunciation: [ hǔa hǐn ]) is a city and a seaside resort in the district ( Amphoe ) Amphoe Hua Hin in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan in central Thailand .
history
Hua Hin is the oldest seaside resort in Thailand and is often mentioned in the same breath as the resort of Cha-am , which is only 25 kilometers away. The rise of the sleepy fishing village to a tourist center began in 1921 with the construction of the railway line from Bangkok to Singapore . The director of the state railway, Prince Purachatra, had the Railway Hotel built in the immediate vicinity of the beach, which still exists today and is now part of the Centara chain . The hotel was originally only intended for railway passengers, but tourism had taken hold in Hua Hin.
The Thai royal family has had their summer residence in Hua Hin since 1926. The Wang Klai Kangwon Palace (Thai: วัง ไกล กังวล , roughly: royal palace far from worries ) serves as a retreat from the heat of Bangkok.
