Pone Kingpetch ( Thai โผน กิ่งเพชร or Mana Seedokbuab Thai มานะ สี ดอก บวบ ; * February 12, 1935 in Hua Hin ; † March 31, 1982 in Bangkok ) was a Thai boxer.
Professional career
Kingpetch turned pro flyweight in 1954. He was comparatively fluctuating in his performance, lost several times in the initial phase, had weight problems and sometimes switched to bantamweight.
On April 16, 1960 he won the flyweight championship by beating Pascual Pérez on points . In the direct rematch he even managed to win an early victory against the Argentine legend. As a result, he became the first Thai world champion and is now generally regarded as the best Thai boxer of all time behind Khaosai Galaxy .
He lost the title in Tokyo in October 1962 to the Japanese Fighting Harada by a knockout defeat in the eleventh round, but was able to beat this on points in the rematch in his home country. He also went KO against his compatriot Hiroyuki Ebihara in Japan and again won the rematch in Thailand on points.
The point defeat against the Italian Salvatore Burruni in Rome in 1965 was his last title fight. In 1966 he ended his career.
Pone Kingpetch died on March 31, 1982 in Bangkok at the age of 47.
