Kailua is a place in the western Kona District on the island of Hawaii (Big Island) with 11,975 inhabitants (2010 census). Kailua is part of Hawaii County . Colloquially, it is used to distinguish Kailua on the island of Oahu from Kona .

In the north of Kailua is the Hualālai volcano, one of the three active volcanoes in Hawaii. There are no rivers in the Kailua area.
