The District Court of Regensburg is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and one of 73 district courts in Bavaria . The seat of the court is at Augustenstraße 3 in Regensburg .

history

In 1879 the district courts of Regensburg I and Regensburg II were formed from the older regional courts . The history of today's district court building begins, after difficult negotiations, with the acquisition of a piece of land in Kumpfmühler Strasse, on which construction of the court building began in 1901 and was completed in 1905. Now the district courts of Regensburg I and Regensburg II could be merged to form the district court of Regensburg. A sugar factory was previously located on the property. The building was built in the neo-renaissance style, the main portal is adorned with two allegorical figures and the staircase in the entrance hall is flanked by two lions carved in sandstone. The ceiling in the entrance area is decorated with a coat of arms. In the course of the Second World War , the east wing was destroyed and rebuilt by 1950. Due to the lack of space, the adjacent residential buildings in Kumpfmühler Strasse and Augustenstrasse were bought and converted into office space. Due to a further lack of space, consideration was given to building a new building in the Königswiesen district. The land registry was moved to Augustenstr. 5a outsourced. The building was then purchased and used again. However, it was decided against a new building and an extension was planned on the site at Augustenstrasse 3. The building was then demolished on the site and a new building was erected, which was completed in 1987. The construction costs amounted to 17.5 million DM .

In the year 1990, the building in the Augustenstr were. 6a and in the Kumpfmühlerstr. 4a completely renovated. The work was completed in 1997 and the costs amounted to 16 million DM. In the course of the renovation , the adjacent municipal August school was purchased. This was then rebuilt in 2000 and moved into in March 2004. Since then, the district and regional courts have been holding meetings there, as well as teaching and examinations for trainee lawyers.
