Clemens Prokop

Clemens Prokop (born March 26, 1957 in Regensburg ) is a German lawyer, sports official and former athlete. From 2001 to 2017 he was President of the German Athletics Association .

Life

Prokop grew up in Saal an der Donau , where his father was the principal of the elementary school. In the 1970s he began competitive sports in track and field all-around. In 1975 Prokop moved from SV Saal to the Regensburg Athletics Association , where he was trained by Wolfgang Wattolik. In the same year he was German youth indoor champion in the long jump. 1977 Prokop was appointed to the national team for the first time. After graduating from high school in Kelheim , Prokop began studying law at the University of Regensburg in 1976 .

In 1979 he ended his active sporting career in favor of a career as a lawyer and passed the first state examination in law. In 1984 the second state examination followed. Subsequently, Prokop worked as a judge at the Landshut regional court and as a public prosecutor in Regensburg. In 2000 he received his doctorate with the work The limits of the doping ban for Dr. jur. From 2004 to 2011 Prokop was director of the Kelheim District Court and since 2011 he has been the Director of the Regensburg District Court . With effect from June 16, 2019, Prokop was appointed Chief Public Prosecutor of the Regensburg Public Prosecutor's Office. From August 1, 2020, Prokop will be President of Landshut Regional Court .

In 1993 Prokop became legal officer of the German Athletics Association and in 1997 its vice-president. In 2000 Prokop was appointed to the Legal Commission of the International Association of Athletics Federations . As the successor to Helmut Digel , Prokop was elected President of the German Athletics Association in 2001. Jürgen Kessing was elected his successor at the end of 2017 . Between 2002 and 2004 Prokop was a member of the Anti-Doping Commission of the European Athletic Association . In 2012 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . In 2017 he received the badge of honor from the German Olympic Sports Confederation .

Since November 2018 Prokop has been chairman of the association "Friends of the Regensburg Cathedral Choir ".
