Jürgen Kessing

Jürgen Kessing (born March 28, 1957 in Worms ) is a German local politician of the SPD and since 2004 Lord Mayor of the large district town of Bietigheim-Bissingen . On November 18, 2017 he was elected President of the German Athletics Association (DLV).

education and profession

From 1972 Jürgen Kessing completed an administrative training with the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein , where he was employed until 1989. He has a degree in administration and business administration. Further professional positions were the District Association of the Palatinate , the city of Kaiserslautern , the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate and the city of Dessau , where he was elected mayor in 2001.

Political activity

In 2004 he was elected Lord Mayor of Bietigheim-Bissingen to succeed Manfred List (CDU). In the mayor election on March 4, 2012, he ran again. With a voter turnout of 24.57 percent, he was elected for a further term of office without opposing candidates with 96.2 percent of the valid votes.

In addition to his work as Lord Mayor of Bietigheim-Bissingen, he is a member and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the district council of the Ludwigsburg district and a member of the regional assembly of the Stuttgart Region Association . In the district election on June 7, 2009 , he led the list of the SPD.

A few weeks after his re-election in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Kessing was asked by his party, in the mayoral election in Stuttgart on October 7, 2012 as a candidate of the SPD against Sebastian Turner (independent, supported by CDU, FDP and Free Voters) and Fritz Kuhn (Greens ) to compete. Kessing turned down the offer "after careful consideration".

Sports

As an active athlete, Kessing belonged to the ABC Ludwigshafen and the MTG Mannheim . As a teenager, he managed the pole vault to a height of four meters and was twice Rhineland Palatinate champion, and Kessing was also a good decathlete. He is trained as a DLV-A-Trainer Sprung and worked at the base in Mannheim.

Kessing was elected President of the German Athletics Association (DLV) as the successor to Clemens Prokop on November 18, 2017 at the 47th DLV Association Day in Darmstadt .

Other offices

Jürgen Kessing is a member of the administrative board of the Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg . Since 2011 he has been a member of the Rotary Club "Ludwigsburg / Alt-Württemberg".

Kessing is married and has two daughters.
