Karl Mai (Mayor)
Karl Mai (born July 11, 1909 , † November 1, 1993 ) was a German CDU local politician .
Career
Mai was mayor from 1948 until his retirement in 1975 or, after being promoted to a major district town, mayor of the town of Bietigheim in Baden-Württemberg . The beginning of his term of office was marked by the housing shortage in the post-war years. The establishment of the Bietigheim building cooperative created numerous new apartments in the city. The city's infrastructure was later improved with the construction of kindergartens, schools and sports facilities. Between 1962 and 1971 partnerships were established with the cities of Kusatsu (Japan), Sucy-en-Brie (France) and Surrey Heath (Great Britain).
Honors
- 1968: Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany
- 1975: Honorary citizen of the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen (on the occasion of his departure)
- 1979: Merit Medal of the State of Baden-Württemberg
- 1988: Name of Karl-Mai-Allee in Bietigheim-Bissingen
