The Kong Frederik d. IX's Bro ( German : König-Frederik-d.-IX.-Brücke ) is a combined road and railway bridge over the Guldborgsund between the Danish islands of Falster and Lolland, designed as a girder bridge with a folding segment . The after the Danish King Frederik IX. named bridge connects the cities of Nykøbing Falster and Sundby .

The bridge carries the four- lane Primærrute 9 (P9), the single-lane railway line Ringsted – Rødby Færge , a footpath and a bicycle path across the sound. Since the P9 forms a short-circuit section between European route 47 ( Vogelfluglinie ) and European route 55 , which merge at Eskilstrup east of the Guldborgsund tunnel, the bridge is an important way of bypassing the tunnel. Besides the tunnel and Guldborgsundbroen, it is the only fixed crossing of the Guldborgsund and the second oldest after the bridge in Guldborg.

In the course of the construction of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link and the associated double-track expansion of the Rødbyhavn - Orehoved line , the bridge is to be extended to two railway tracks. According to a study by the Danish Ministry of Transport, this is possible without a new bridge being built.

  1. Study ( Memento of May 22, 2014 in the Internet Archive ; PDF; 2.5 MB) by the Danish Ministry of Transport from 2009, p. 35, accessed on August 29, 2012 (Danish):
“Som de to forrige broer, er Frederik d . 9's office, which he established in 1963, is also planned for Femern Bælt. This is done at the office in the field of dobbeltsporet. Det forventes, at en udvidelse af den eksisterende bro er mulig. ”
German:“ Like the two aforementioned bridges [ Storstrømsbroen and Masnedsundbroen ], Frederik d. 9's bro, which was built in 1963, is part of the Fehmarn Belt Project. This means that the bridge will be two-pronged. It can be assumed that an extension of the existing bridge is possible. "
