history

Since the city was founded by the Bavarian Duke Ludwig den Kelheimer in 1218 , Straubing was the permanent seat of the Vitztum from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century , due to its ties to the sovereign , who was the sovereign's deputy. The Vitztumamt exercised the ducal and from 1623 the electoral state authority . It not only had the remit of a court, but also of an administrative authority and a financial authority . Temporarily had the official 23 dishes from the Upper Palatinate and Lower Bavaria subordinate. From 1802 to 1808 Straubing was also the seat of one of the two electoral and from 1806 royal court courts and thus one of the central judicial and administrative authorities in Bavaria. The other city that held this status was Munich .

Straubing lost its position as a judicial and government town due to the territorial reform in the Kingdom of Bavaria from 1840 . In any case, from 1808 to 1840 it was only a court of appeal . From 1879 Straubing was again the seat of a - initially royal Bavarian - regional court, which comprised six local courts. This was dissolved again in 1932 , so that the city has only been the seat of the local court since then.
