Jack Szostak
Jack William Szostak (born November 9, 1952 in London ) is a Canadian - American molecular biologist of British - Polish descent, who became known for his work on the enzyme telomerase .
He was, along with Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol W. Greider of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine awarded in 2009.
education
Szostak grew up in Montreal and Ottawa, Canada. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Cell Biology from McGill University in Montreal , Canada in 1972 . In 1977 he received the Ph.D. from Cornell University in Ithaca , New York for biochemistry . For the next two years he was a Research Associate at Cornell University in the same field.
Awards
Szostak is a member of the National Academy of Sciences (1998), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1999), the American Philosophical Society (2012), the Royal Society (2019) and the New York Academy of Sciences . In 2006 he became a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science .
