geography

Trang Province is located on the Andaman Sea coast in the southern region of Thailand . The provincial capital itself is located on the Mae Nam Trang (Trang River) about 20 kilometers from the Andaman Sea, a tributary of the Indian Ocean . The surroundings appear as a gentle, hilly landscape with endless rubber plantations .

Economy and Transport

After the unrest sparked by the Malay rebels , the Thai government is paying more attention to the south and investing in irrigation and infrastructure. Rubber is the main product of regional agriculture and the city serves as the main hub.

Trang has a train station on the Thung Song Junction – Kantang line , a branch of the Southern Railway , which connects Bangkok with Malaysia . Trang is served by the Trang regional airport ( IATA airport code : TST), located a good five kilometers south of the city center , which has gained significantly in importance since 2008.

history

Trang had been directly on the coast of the Andaman Sea for about 2000 years . Because of the constant flooding in the seasonal storms, it was moved inland in the 19th century.
