Walloons

The French-speaking inhabitants of the Belgian region of Wallonia call themselves Walloons . The French-speaking population group in the Brussels-Capital Region , on the other hand, mostly describes themselves as Francophone or Francophone Brussels residents .

etymology

The Dutch name "waals" is the equivalent of the High German name Walloon. This shows an etymological connection with the High German designation welsch .
