The U-20 South American Football Championship ( Spanish: Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-20 ), also Juventud de America , is a football competition between the national teams of South America for male football players under the age of 20. It is the oldest junior tournament and has been held since 1954, but initially only took place at irregular intervals. Since the U-20 World Cup was introduced in 1977, it has also served as a qualification for the Junior (U-20) World Cup, with the four best-placed teams qualifying. Since then, the tournament has been held every two years. Since 2007, the tournament has also been used every four years as a qualifying tournament for the men's Olympic football tournament . The two teams placed first qualify and then take part in the Olympic Games as U-23 selections supplemented by three older players.
As with the other South American continental tournaments, there is no qualification.
