1983 U-20 South American Football Championship

The XVI. The 1985 U-20 South American Football Championship took place in Bolivia from January 22, 1983 to February 13, 1983 .

The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in the cities of Santa Cruz , Cochabamba and La Paz . The national teams of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament.

The game was played in two groups, followed by a final phase, also in group mode. Brazil emerged victorious from the event . Places two to four went to the national teams from Uruguay , Argentina and Bolivia . The first three teams qualified for the Junior World Cup in Mexico in 1983 .

The tournament's top scorer was the Uruguayan Carlos Aguilera with seven goals scored.
