The VIII. U-20 South American Football Championship 1977 took place from April 16, 1977 to May 6, 1977 in Venezuela .

The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in the cities of Mérida , Valencia and Caracas . The national teams of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament.

The game was played in two groups, followed by a final phase, also in group mode. Uruguay emerged victorious from the event . Places two to four went to the national teams from Brazil , Paraguay and Chile . The first three teams qualified for the 1977 Junior World Cup in Tunisia .

The tournament's top scorer was the Uruguayan Amaro Nadal and the Brazilian Guinha , each with four goals.

The coach of the "Celeste" was Raúl Bentancor .
